Second Trimester | Weeks 14 - 28

What to Expect

  • You will typically have prenatal visits every four to six weeks during this trimester (or more frequently, if needed)
  • Start looking for a pediatrician around the end of the second trimester

Medical Monitoring

Ultrasound

  • An anatomy ultrasound is performed around 20 weeks
  • This ultrasound evaluates important anatomic structures in the brain, heart, spine, abdomen, arms, legs and placenta

Lab Work

Around 24-28 weeks you will have more lab work that includes:

  • Repeat CBC (complete blood count), urinalysis and RPR (syphilis test)
  • Screening for diabetes during pregnancy (may be done earlier in pregnancy, if indicated)
