Necklift
A necklift involves the removing of excess skin under the chin and around the jaw line. If you have extra fatty tissue or a “double chin”, liposuction may be performed at the same time. This procedure is often done in conjunction with a facelift.
Good Candidates
Anyone who has loose, sagging skin under the chin or excess fat below the jaw line and under the chin may benefit from a neck lift. As we age, the skin under our chin does begin to sag. Sometimes because of weight loss or heredity we find ourselves with more skin than we desire in the neck area and this causes us to look older than we are. If you have a “double chin” that does not respond to diet or exercise, you may benefit from liposuction in that area along with a neck lift.
Prior to Surgery
As with any cosmetic surgery, the most important step in this process is the one on one consultation with your surgeon. During this time, you will discuss your goals and expectation. This is the time to ask questions and voice any concerns that you might have. Together, you and your doctor can decide the best plan of action based on your individual needs.
The Surgery
This surgery is an outpatient procedure and general anesthesia is used. If you are just having liposuction in the neck area, a small incision will be made right under the chin. A small cannula is inserted into the incision and the excess fatty tissue is removed. If excess drooping skin under the chin is the issue, an incision will be made behind the ear lobe and the skin will be pulled tight. A second incision may be made under the chin as well depending on how much excess skin needs to be removed. In many cases, both procedures will be done at the same time to offer optimum results. There are several options to improve the appearance of your neck depending on your personal goals.
Benefits
The benefits of a necklift are immediately obvious. You will look and feel younger and more vibrant. The tissue around the neck will be tighter and firmer. Your overall appearance will be enhanced.
