Gaston Palliative Services

What is palliative care?

Palliative Care is a medical specialty focused on improving the quality of life for people living with a serious illness or medical condition, regardless of their age or prognosis. Palliative Care is focused on relieving symptoms such as pain, shortness of breath, fatigue, constipation, and other symptoms while helping patients carry on with the activities of daily life.

Palliative Care can be provided from the time of diagnosis and often improves one's ability to tolerate curative medical treatments.

Gaston Palliative Services

Inpatient: Gaston Palliative Care

Inpatient Palliative Care is focused on relieving symptoms such as pain, shortness of breath, fatigue, constipation, nausea, loss of appetite, agitation and difficulty sleeping, while helping patients carry on with the activities of daily life. We value and honor our patients and their families with compassionate, exceptional and highly reliable care.

Outpatient: Palliative Care outside of the hospital

Although home is the traditional setting to provide palliative services, some people are unable to remain at home. Gaston Palliative Care has established partnerships with most Gaston County nursing facilities/health care centers to provide services. These services include pain and symptom management; education for patient, family and facility staff; social, spiritual and psychological support for residents, family members and facility staff who desire it.
