CaroMont Regional Medical Center's Nurse Residency Program Earns National Accreditation
CaroMont Regional Medical Center's Nurse Residency Program has been granted full accreditation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's (ANCC) Commission on Accreditation in Practice Transition Programs. The accreditation runs for four years, through July 2030, and covers hospital residency sites in Gastonia, Mount Holly and Belmont across five practice settings: Medical-Surgical, Step Down, Critical Care, Emergency Department and Acuity Adaptable.
The distinction places CaroMont Health's program among a select group of residency programs nationwide that meet the ANCC's standards for supporting nurses in their transition to practice. It serves as independent, national validation of the structure, mentorship and support new nurses receive from their first day at CaroMont Health.
In its review, ANCC appraisers specifically recognized the strength of the program's interprofessional shadowing experiences, giving nurse residents the opportunity to learn from the many disciplines represented on their care teams, as well as its structured mentorship model, which supports residents in every practice setting.
"This achievement places our program among an elite group of residency programs nationwide that meet the ANCC's rigorous standards for supporting nurses as they transition into practice," said Beth Canipe, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer for CaroMont Health. "It is an independent, national validation of something we have long known: when a nurse begins their career at CaroMont Health, they are surrounded by structure, mentorship and support designed to help them succeed."
Canipe credited the achievement to the broader nursing team and the colleagues across departments who support the program, as well as CaroMont Health's education partnerships with area nursing programs that prepare many of the nurses who begin their careers at CaroMont Health.
